The Foundation is a non-partisan organization which sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, CA, the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, The Air Force One Pavilion, the award-winning Discovery Center, and the Reagan Institute, which carries out the Foundation’s mission in Washington, DC. The Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington, DC seeks a full-time Policy Associate to support initiatives under its Center for Peace Through Strength and Center for Freedom and Democracy. 

We are looking for a diligent and detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and communication skills to support a number of programs, projects, publications, and convenings. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone with experience providing support to policy programs or related work who is ready to step into a project management role in a dynamic work environment. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Policy Associate of will perform a variety of functions in support of the Institute’s Center for Peace Through Strength and Center for Freedom and Democracy – including policy project management, program implementation, event coordination, and any additional duties hereafter assigned:

  •  Assist the Policy Director with implementation of the Centers’ policy programs and work with internal and external partners to achieve objectives.

  • Support the policy and programs teams in the planning and execution of major convenings, such as the Reagan National Defense Forum, the National Security Innovation Base Summit, as well as regular policy events and private roundtables.

  • Help manage work related to the Centers’ policy products and programs, such as the Institute’s National Security Innovation Base Report Card, and any future task forces or working groups.

  • Conduct outreach to key stakeholders across the policy community, including Congress, the Executive Branch, the military, and the private sector, to advance the Centers’ policy work.

  • Assist with digital and written correspondence and communications efforts, such as event invitations, email campaigns, press releases, and publications. 

  • Provide research and analytical support to the Policy Director, to include drafting memos, op-eds, and remarks.

  • Support broader Institute events, sometimes in the evenings, on weekends, and holidays. 

 

Qualifications

  • Two to three years of successful experience working in the policy space.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

  • Passion for foreign and defense policy as well as President Reagan’s legacy.

  • Ability to collaborate collegially within and across teams.

  • Strong work ethic as well as time management and problem-solving skills.

  • Keen attention to detail, an eye for accuracy, and a commitment to excellence.

  • Ability to function at a high level in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.

  • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.

  • Ability and desire to take ownership of projects.

  • Flexibility and adaptability.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google suites, Airtables, and Canva or similar programs.  

Reporting Relationships

This position will report to the Policy Director, who leads the Center for Peace Through Strength and Center for Freedom and Democracy. 

Salary/Benefits/Job Location

  • This is an exempt full-time position, located at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute in Washington, DC

  • Though remote candidates will not be considered, limited telework options are available to employees in accordance with Institute policies and approval of direct supervisor.
