FACULTY POSITION
LIMITED-TERM in Applied Health Science and Leadership
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), Western University invites applications for a two-year Limited-Term, renewable faculty position in Applied Health Science and Leadership at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2025, or as negotiated. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of the seven Schools within the Faculty (Brescia School of Food and Nutritional Sciences, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Studies, Kinesiology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy), depending on the applicant’s area of teaching, scholarship, and/or discipline.
Principal duties will include designing, teaching, coordinating, and delivering education within a new professional doctorate program, currently in development within the Faculty of Health Sciences. This professional doctorate is being designed to support advanced practitioners and leaders in health sciences through a curriculum that combines coursework in leadership with opportunities for individual focus in areas such as equity, interprofessional issues and health policy. The program will include a mix of mandatory courses and flexible options tailored to students’ specific interests, culminating in a Dissertation in Practice – a practical, impactful project that addresses real-world challenges in health sciences. The new professional doctorate will align with FHS’s Advanced Health Care Practice (AHCP), which is a Faculty-wide, one-year (three terms) course-based master’s program that uses primarily online education, supplemented with in-person hands on residency periods, where appropriate. The AHCP program currently offers two degrees and eight Fields of study, with plans to expand MHSc Fields (e.g., Coaching and Leadership). AHCP is interprofessional, based on adult and active learning principles, and consolidates learning through experiential capstone projects with community partners. Teaching within the AHCP program will also be expected.
The candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent, and have a background related to at least one of the Schools in FHS. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence and varied experiences in online and in-person teaching and enthusiasm for quality and innovative educational practices. Background in health care, health and wellbeing, and/or interprofessional leadership and prior experience teaching courses pertaining to leadership, health policy and organizational governance, change theories and management, and/or digital health care would be beneficial. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community. The successful candidate will be expected to mainly teach online at the graduate level and contribute to course and curriculum development (70%). Although the teaching is primarily online, it is expected that the successful candidate will be located in and committed to a physical presence at Western University. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in relevant research, scholarly activities, and service (30% allocated between research and service responsibilities) to their School and FHS. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
