The Department of Oncology hosts the Radiation Therapy (RADTH) program which includes the Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy (BScRT) education offering, preparing graduates to make a positive impact on the lives of cancer patients through the delivery of radiation treatment, patient care, and research. The University of Alberta’s Radiation Therapy program is Alberta’s only program to educate radiation therapists. Fully accredited with a focus on ‘Student-Centred Learning for Patient-Centred Care’, the program’s vision is to “Advance the profession of Radiation Therapy through internationally recognized patient-centred education, scholarship, and community engagement.”

Position Summary

For the sustainability and advancement of the BScRT program and the radiation therapy profession, the Department of Oncology is seeking a radiation therapist for a full-time tenure track position, with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package. This position consists of an academic and clinical focus. It comprises approximately 80% time for academic pursuits, divided between research, teaching and administrative duties and 20% time for clinical pursuits across the provincial Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) portfolio. This tenure-track position will be the bridge between clinical practice and the academic arena, providing academic and clinical expertise in both areas. The successful candidate will foster a high-quality inter-professional and collaborative environment of teaching and learning, research and scholarly achievement.

The successful candidate will contribute significant expertise to the provincial academic and clinical radiation therapy environment which is moving forward with image-guided and precision radiation medicine initiatives, including, but not limited to, the integration of magnetic resonance-guided and adaptive radiation treatment planning and delivery. This role will participate in clinical development, research, and curriculum expansion in these areas.

This position will be instrumental in teaching the underpinnings of research and lead the research portfolio within the current undergraduate BScRT program and future graduate program. It will also lead and contribute to research in the CCA clinical radiation therapy environment. The recent Cancer Care Alberta 5-year Strategic Road map indicates the need to “accelerate the rate of question to intervention, intervention to learning, and learning to practice”. This position will be instrumental in contributing to such a strategic direction in the radiation therapy realm.

Additionally, the successful candidate will inform and collaborate on the planning, development and evaluation of the provincial CCA advanced-practice radiation therapy strategy and will include the development of graduate-level educational offerings.

Duties

• Lead the Radiation Therapy program’s research portfolio, including supervision of undergraduate and graduate student research
• Apply for and hold grant funding
• Inform and contribute to academic clinical radiation therapy practice in Alberta
• Contribute to research for image-guided and adaptive precision radiation therapy medicine
• Lead precision and emerging radiation therapy medicine curriculum development
• Develop graduate and post-graduate education offerings that include, but are not limited to, supporting advanced practice radiation therapy strategies
• Advises the Director, RADTH Program; the Chair, Department of Oncology; CCA leaders, and others on any opportunities/issues relevant to the radiation therapy profession

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD/Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline
• Minimum 3 years demonstrated supervisory experience
• Proven track record in independent or collaborative research
• Experience and interest in image-guided and adaptive precision radiation therapy medicine
• Experience in program and curriculum development
• Demonstrated success in building collaborative inter-professional relationships internally, externally, nationally and internationally
• Demonstration of exemplary interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be eligible for full-practice licensure with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) and hold membership with CAMRT and CAMRT-AB
• Maintenance of CPR Healthcare provider certification and N-95 Mask Fit testing
• Graduate from an accredited radiation therapy education program

The following are considered an asset

• 10+ years of progressive radiation therapy experience
• Experience in advanced practice radiation therapy certification and role development
