Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI)
The Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is focused on biomedical research and striving to transform healthcare through translational research and innovation in the prevention, diagnosis, as well as treatment of high-prevalence diseases.
QBRI was founded in 2012 as a center of excellence and a global hub for biomedical and translational research. The center of excellence boasts many state-of-the-art core facilities including genomics, proteomics, structural biology, flow cytometry, advanced microscopy and imaging. QBRI works towards the development of novel biomarkers, diagnostic and therapeutic solutions to facilitate early diagnosis, treatment, and management of select diseases and improve personalised medicine and healthcare.

Position Profile
QBRI is seeking an Executive Director who will be responsible for providing overall leadership in research, project management, infrastructure development, and scientific investigation in high-priority areas of biomedical and associated research.
Reporting into the Vice President of Research of HBKU, the Executive Director will provide visionary leadership to enhance the institute’s research excellence, innovation, and global impact. They will foster a dynamic and collaborative research environment, secure funding from diverse sources, and strengthen partnerships with top-tier universities, medical centers, and industry leaders. Additionally, they will oversee the institute budget, faculty recruitment and mentorship, drive interdisciplinary collaborations, and ensure the institute remains at the forefront of emerging biomedical research trends and technologies.
We are seeking an outstanding leader holding a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent in a relevant biomedical field and be a professor or equivalent at a renowned university, medical center, or research institution. The candidate must have extensive leadership experience directing an academic department, research center or major scientific program, with a strong publication record and a history of securing significant research funding. Proven expertise in fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, mentoring scientists, and leading diverse research teams is essential. Sound people management experience and ability to achieve results through inspired leadership and accountability is a must, along with strong collaboration, team building and development skills. Experience working with industry or commercializing scientific outcomes, as well as a commitment to the local region, are both highly desirable.
