Western University is an internationally renowned research-intensive university that is ranked among the top-ten in Canada, and prides itself in the student experience of its educational programs. Included in these programs are medical (MD) and dental (DDS) students within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (the School). The School has a long tradition of excellence, beginning with the founding of the medical school in 1881 and continuing with the formation of the dental school in 1964. The School draws on a highly qualified and talented pool of applicants that train in rigorous and demanding professional programs. The didactic content is enriched by the foundational sciences, and the clinical experience is supported by local practitioners, community and hospital clinics, and a large patient pool from across Southwestern Ontario.

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for one position in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, to begin January 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be appointed to a Full-time Probationary (tenure-track) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, preferred. Exceptional applicants will be considered for an appointment at a higher rank. Qualified applicants will have a DDS/DMD degree (or equivalent), as well as training in an advanced specialty program in Orthodontics granting them an MSc, PhD, or equivalent graduate degree. Candidates must be eligible to obtain a specialty license in Orthodontics with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. Fellowship in the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and/or Board Certification with the American Board of Orthodontics is also preferred.

Candidates will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program and should have a record of achievement in research and publication appropriate for their stage of career. Any area of dental research can apply, although preference will be given to applicants with a record of research relevant to the specialty of Orthodontics. The successful candidates will participate in the teaching and service activities of the dental school, particularly its Graduate Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics Program, and will be considered for cross-appointment in departments within and outside of the School. In addition to clinical teaching and research, it is expected that the candidate will participate in curriculum design renewal, monitoring of student clinical progression and participation in faculty calibration and development.

Successful candidates should possess a demonstrated aptitude for leadership as well as teaching and clinical mentoring of junior colleagues, students, or residents in either community dental practice or institutional programs. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language and must be willing to work in a collaborative manner in both teaching and administration. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The opportunity for private practice is afforded by the provision of a consulting privilege of one day per week.
