The duration of the internship, as defined by the tripartite agreement, is 6 to 12 months at 100%

Context & mission
Médecins Sans Frontières is an independent, international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to people in need, people affected by natural or man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and without regard to race, religion, creed or political affiliation (MSF Charter).
Médecins Sans Frontières is a medical humanitarian organization founded in 1971 by doctors and journalists. The Swiss section was founded in Geneva in 1981. MSF provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters or exclusion from healthcare. More than 97% of MSF’s funding comes from the generosity of its private donors.
The Philanthropy unit is one of the 6 business units of the Communication and Fundraising Department. With a staff of 21, it raised over CHF 90 million last year from individuals, foundations, companies and cantons/communes.
The diversification Intern will work with the Head of Diversification and Impact of the Philanthropy unit, and will collaborate with the members of the Philanthropy unit, the members of the Communication and Fundraising department as well as those of the other MSF departments necessary to achieve his/her mission.
Tasks and responsibilities
Main Objective of philanthropy diversification:
Philanthropy Diversification efforts ensure that MSF Switzerland receives an increasing amount of philanthropy funding from new and innovative funding sources. We advise and support the fundraising teams in harvesting these new opportunities and monitor progress. We contribute to MSF Switzerland spearheading philanthropy innovation for the benefit of the MSF movement.
Blockchain Philanthropy:
Support in:
- Steering, implementing, and developing Crypto and NFT projects
- Coordinating the international project stakeholders from within MSF Switzerland and other MSF sections
- Contributing to developing and sharing knowledge about blockchain philanthropy within MSF CH and the movement.
- Participates in the relevant internal and external foras.
- Collaborating with the Digital Unit and looking into joint initiatives and specific collaborations.
- Contributing to the organisational knowledge about the targeted demographics and ensuring restitution, analysis, and preservation of institutional memory.
- Keeping informed of market trends and sharing them with the team.
Islamic Philanthropy:
Support in:
- Steering, implementing, and developing the Islamic Philanthropy Project for MSF CH
- Coordinating stakeholders from the relevant units, departments and MSF branches
- Monitoring involvement of other western aid actors in Islamic Philanthropy
- Ensuring MSF CH is part of the overall MSF efforts on Islamic Philanthropy
Other:
If and when relevant, support in:
- Developing proposals and pitches for other innovative partnerships, as well as for maximizing potential with existing partners, in collaboration with the philanthropy unit team.
- Management of other innovative diversification projects aimed at long-term income.
- Support ad hoc projects as needed in the Unit in accordance with the line manager and the department’s management.
Your profile
- Have a tripartite internship agreement
- English: excellent writing and communication skills
- Knowledge of French, German, Italian, or Arabic: a plus
- University level education
- Specializing/option in either Web3, Blockchain technology, Decentralized systems, or new technologies, international relations, Middle Eastern studies, or Islamic studies is desired
- First professional experience (NPO, humanitarian, finance, innovation) or in the world of finance, Web3 or new technologies is a plus
- Proficiency in the usual IT tools (MS Office suite, 365)
- Use and mastery of the following social media: Instagram, LinkedIn, X (BlueSky a plus), Whatsapp, Telegram, Discord (Signal a plus)
- Excellent writing and synthetic skills
Desired technical skills
- Understanding/Knowledge of Web3 ecosystems and/or blockchain
- Experience of cryptocurrencies and/or decentralized finance (DeFI)
- Understanding of the principles of Islamic charity
- Knowledge of Islamic finance and philanthropy tools and instruments

Terms of employment
- A tripartite internship agreement is mandatory
- 6 to 12 months, according to internship agreement
- Full time (40h/week)
- Based in Geneva or Zurich, Switzerland
- Start date: June 2025
- Gross monthly remuneration 2’000.- CHF
