Job Description Summary

About URI:

The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State’s flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. BASIC FUNCTION:

Serve as a key member of the Talent Development Program’s leadership team, providing oversight and coordination of project-based initiatives such as Talent Development Program’s Exit Interview process for graduating seniors. Serve as the primary liaison to the URI Foundation, Alumni, and Engagement offices and the Center for Career and Experiential Education. Develop and implement evaluation tools to gather feedback on the TD experience, generate data-informed reports on graduating students, and lead the planning and execution of the annual TD Graduation Breakfast and Exit Interview process. Develop strategic student support programming that supports retention and degree completion. Provide individualized and group-based appreciative advising to support students in their transition to college, academic planning, and timely progression toward graduation completion. Collaborate with students to explore internship opportunities, graduate and professional studies, research experiences, and career pathways. Act as a liaison with faculty, staff, and departments within degree-granting colleges to resolve curriculum or advising-related issues and ensure students are supported holistically.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct weekly individual and group meetings with TD students to provide ongoing academic and personal support.

Monitor and assess students’ academic progress each semester, ensuring they remain on track toward degree completion.

Facilitate mid-semester evaluations to identify areas for improvement and provide necessary interventions.

Lead the Talent Development Exit Interview process, serving as the primary liaison to URI’s Foundation, Alumni, and Engagement teams. Develop and manage evaluation tools to assess the experiences of graduating seniors, generate data-informed reports in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Assessment and Communication, and oversee the planning and execution of the annual TD Graduation Breakfast.

Represent Talent Development on campus wide committees.

Encourage students’ participation as it relates to opportunities within the university for academic, professional and leadership development.

Develop, analyze, and maintain reports focused on student retention and graduation outcomes to inform strategic planning, monitor progress toward institutional goals, and support continuous improvement in student success initiatives.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with Social Media accounts in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Assessment and Communication.

Work evenings and weekends when necessary.

Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED:

1. Must be a current URI employee.

2. Master’s degree in college student personnel, counseling, education or related field with a minimum of two years’ combined experience in academic advising and academic coaching in higher education, OR, Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years full-time experience in academic advising.

3. Demonstrated experience in both individual and group advising or group coaching.

4. Demonstrated workshop design and facilitation experience.

5. Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.

6. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).

7. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

8. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

9. Demonstrated supervisory experience.

10. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

11. Demonstrated experience and dedication to integrating issues of inclusion, equity and social justice in your work.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED:

1. Master’s degree in college student personnel, counseling, education or related field.

2. Demonstrated ability to utilize current social media applications, Brightspace (or similar platform), on-line advising, presentation technology and student records systems (i.e., PeopleSoft).

3. Demonstrated experience with Starfish systems.

4. Demonstrated skills in assessment.

5. Demonstrated classroom teaching and program planning experience.

6. Demonstrated bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
