Overview & Background
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. World Vision serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender. Established in 1950, World Vision operates in nearly 100 countries. Over 33,000 staff members (95% of whom work in their own countries) help implement health, education, livelihoods, food security, child protection, economic empowerment, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs. Much of World Vision’s transformational development work takes place in its area programs, which work in a holistic manner over seven to 15 years with local communities in a way that multiplies the impact of the assistance and results in self-sustaining development. World Vision’s community-empowering model has created strong relationships with local civic actors, businesses, faith communities, and governments.
